"Illusion of Safety "- August 2002
22/08/06 21:10
This demo was Allergo's first recording in the studio
at Clearwater. It was recorded only 8 weeks after
their first gig.
1. Jim the Gravedigger
2. Noise Machine
3. Blister
4. White
5. Nurtured and Measured
ALLERGO:The Illusion Of Safety Despite being incredibly young (average age is 15 or 16, I think) and only having been together a year, Perth mettalers Allergo have produced a five-track demo EP that challenges the already high standards set by their "Demo Listen" debut earlier this year. The 24 second opener Jim The Gravedigger is a bewildering and chaotic blast of speed metal that gives way to familiar second track Noise Machine. I say familiar because it's featured on Allergo's last demo and is a regular in the bands live set which i've caught a few times. It was one of our favorites from the band's demo debut - this time round, though, it seems a little tighter, more mature-sounding and better produced than the earlier version. Blister has a steady laid-back intro and some great lo-fi vocals, counter-balanced by a dose of well-executed metal screaming. Although hinting at more mainstream capabilities, Blister's become our favorite track from these guys. It also shows an amazing level of playing and writing ability. Track four - White - lulls the listener into a false sense of security with it's simple but catchy intro which underpins the entire track. The last track Nurtured And Measured is another out and out rocker with a clever middle eight that gives the track a special vibe. Regardless of age, this is a great collection of original metal that's been done justice by a good job at Perth's Clearwater Studio. The CD's available at Goldrush, Perth. Also, live versions of Nurtured And Measured and Noise Machine can be downloaded from the band's website at www.allergonoise.vze.com. Awesome!
